SSS Mission Statement |
To coordinate opportunities for senior citizens to serve other seniors as well as society, and in return, enhancing purpose and passion in their lives and enriching the lives of the individuals they serve. |
|
Why is it important for seniors to serve?
Seniors devoted much of their lives to serving family, friends, their country, careers, and special causes. Unfortunately, as time progresses, children move away, loved ones pass on, and fulfilling careers turn into retirement. Serving and giving to others rekindles passion and purpose within hearts. Studies demonstrate that 70% of senior volunteers claim to enjoy a better quality of life than the average nonvolunteer senior. A senior whose life is enriched by servitude will reciprocate and touch the lives of others, which satisfies the human need to serve and give to others. |

Who are the partners of SSS?
The most important partners of SSS are the residents and employees of HRC. |
Other important partners are Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, Red Cross, US Military, Meals on Wheels, local senior centers, school districts, hospitals, children services, fire stations, police departments, local orphanages, churches food banks, or anyone with a passion to serve others.
How can SSS be implemented for seniors in HRC Communities?
Simply learn the resident’s desired area of service, and then provide the opportunities to serve in those areas. The opportunities are endless and are only limited by the imagination. For example, instead of playing another game of Bingo or watching another movie, residents could crochet baby blankets and deliver them to the pediatric unit at the local hospital. Or they can serve a hot meal at the senior center, join the residence’s Encouragement Team to visit residents in the hospital, or simply read and write letters for their visually impaired neighbors. The SSS program development forms are available to assist in implementing the program and give ideas on how seniors can serve. |
